FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

I am interested in a rear suspension hub.
It is coming in summer 2002.

Would your hub accommodate disc brakes?
Yes,  we are working on a disc brake application, it will be available in Spring/Summer 2002.

What is your manufacturer's warranty?
One year from date of purchase.

Is your suspension hub usable on a 20" road wheel? Can I use it on a fully faired recumbent?
Yes, we do recommend our "Suspension Hub" for recumbents especially. Because of its smaller wheels the ride is not as smooth as a 700 C, but with our suspension the small bumps that recumbent wheels are so sensitive to, is wonderfully smoothed out.
We are bringing a light weight suspension alternative to recumbents, replacing heavy suspension forks and adding benefits, which are not available on suspension forks, such as adjustable trajectory. The suspension adds about 50 grams to the total weight of a wheel, it is the lightest suspension on the market.

Can it be used on a long wheelbase recumbent?
Our "Suspension Hub" is easily adjusted for lighter or heavier loading, for long wheelbase bikes with rear weight bias a soft elastomer is employed.

For how long was your product tested?
For more than one year by Pantour, and over 6 months by professional riders.

Could you give me spoke hole count for your hub?
20, 24, 28 or 32.

What brand of rim are you using for 20" 406mm size?
Bontrager Maverick, Velocity Razor, SunRingle.

Can I choose a different brand of rim?
Yes, you can.

Can I send you my wheel for installing your hub on it?
Yes.

How soon can I get your product?
The Pantour Suspension Hub within 2-3 days.
The Pantour Suspension Wheel within 1 week.
Special order upon customer request 2 weeks.

How can I pay for your product?
Credit card (Visa, MC, Amex, Discover, Diners Club), Check, COD

Will the movement of the suspension affect the braking?
The rider's weight on the bike should result in about 2 mm of travel. With the rider weight on the bike position the brakes in the middle of the brake band. The hub is designed for the suspension to move diagonally and progress in travel back and up to not factor in braking performance.

I have a bike with rather tight clearances up front,so the way in which the suspension does its thing is important. I don't really have an extra 10 mm to play with up there..... but if the wheel starts its vertical movement from below the center of the dropouts, there's adequate clearance. From the photos on your website, it's clear that at zero load the axle is offset from the center of the hub. At full compression, it looks like the axle is either at or close to the hub centerline. Is this is correct? If the axle is offset at full compression, how much is it offset?
Pantour: Your observations are correct. Our suspension hub puts the rim 2 mm below center at no load. 3 mm above center at full load. The rim movement up and down is only 5 mm, the reason is that our suspension geometry follows a diagonal trajectory, (back and up). So of the half inch (12 mm) travel only portion of it is straight up and down. As a result  the 12 mm of brake band (we recommend) is plenty to allows for suspension movement. And as we explained above you can use a rim with 10 mm brake band as well.
(SUN Rim L-17, CR - 18).
